During his recuperation after being wounded in the battle of Purpose, St. Ignatius of Loyola was inspired immensely by the two books he was given to read viz. the Life of Christ and the Life of Saints. He decided to serve Christ under His banner and founded a religions order called the Society of Jesus - popularly know as the Jesuits, in 1540. In the ensuing years besides other service centres/ institutions, many university colleges and schools were started in many different countries for the good of people.
Moved by the spirit of service to the under-privileged and the marginalised, the Darjeeling Jesuits decided to extend their works in the Catholic Diocese of Jalpaiguri and missioned Fr Julius Kujur S.J to Binnaguri Parish in November, 1996 to explore and identify a place where people are in dire need of educational, pastoral and health care. It is at this time that a few prominent Catholics from Uttar Salbari Mogulkata area came to Fr. Julius and requested him to come to the place pledging their support in acquiring land. Adhering to their request Fr Julius visited this place and informed the Province and subsequently the Province decided to purchase the land here. After tireless running around and negotiation first registration of land was done in December 1997 and the effort to acquire more land continued.
In the same year Fr Julius was joined by Fr Peter Pappu S.J in Binnaguri. Soon both of them moved to the mission field and were graciously given accommodation by the Mogulkata T.E. Manager. After a few months people of the place built a thatched hut for the fathers in the Jesuit property where they moved in and started Loyola primary school in 1998 for the children of the place especially the children of the tribal catholic tea garden workers, with Fr Julius as its first Headmaster. The school, a part of this mission, was inaugurated by Late Bishop James Toppo, D.D. of the Catholic Diocese of Jalpaiguri. It is the first Jesuit Missionary venture in the Diocese of Jalpaiguri. The school is started keeping in mind the plight of the people in this area and the children's need for proper education. It is a co-educational school.
The school which began in a two-room thatched house is now a full-fledged high school. In the ensuing years subsequent. Headmasters and Superiors have worked tirelessly for the growth of the school. During the tenure of Fr Pramod Dabhi, S.J as the Headmaster, the school got its first recognition up to class VIII on 2005-2009 and up to class X on 18-02-2011.
The school which was begun as a Hindi medium school is now being converted into English medium. In the academic year 2012 the medium of instruction was changed to English in classes K.G. I and II. The motto of Loyola High School is "Light and Salt". God, the maker of all things, bestows His light through His spirit and words and wisdom manifested in and through His wonderous creation. Students here are guided to raise their minds and hearts to the Almighty and be enlightened by Him to be the light and salt of the world, to be the witnesses of His love. Great care is taken to teach them how to know, love and serve God. For this reason all catholic students are taught the truths of the catholic religion and other students are given moral education. They are also taught to respect, love and serve all other people especially those of their community and country.
From the beginning, students are taught to ask God's help in everything they do. So prayers are said before class in the morning and after class in the evening.
